Why is it that when vegans ask meat eaters to eat one meat-free, dairy-free dish instead of their usual flesh and potatoes for one meal, they act like you are trying to poison them? Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of meat eating friends that are happy to try a vegan dish, but there are some who can’t even fathom not eating meat for just one meal. I had a recent incident regarding my birthday dinner. A family member wanted to take me out for my birthday which I truely appreciate; she told me to choose the restaurant. She selected the location since they didn’t want to drive too far. Los Angeles is a big place and we don’t live near each other. Anyway, she suggested Santa Monica, so I said great! Let’s go to Real Food Daily (RFD). “Do they have meat there?” she asked. “We’ll no” I said. She said we can’t go there then, because she doesn’t want to put her husband through that. What!?! Is it such torture to go to a highly rated vegan restaurant with nachos, potato salad, and club sandwiches, not to mention, amazing weekly specials and not eat meat for just one meal? Apparently it is, so we had to figure out another restaurant.

Geez…these meat eaters do act like it’s the end of the world to for-go the flesh for one tiny meal of their lives. It was a few years ago for me, but a couple of years back, as Social Director for my fellow graduate students, I offered to have the Holiday Social at my house to save departmental funds (basically so we could spend more on booze). One of the grad students asked, “Is there going to be meat there?” I said, “No because not only am I vegan, but so is my house (no meat in the house).” And then it was a big uproar, and finally someone else (a non-vegan) stuck up for me saying that I am doing a grand gesture by opening my house to these people and they can go without meat for 3 hours on a Friday night.
Just wanted to let everyone know about Good To Go restaurant in Huntington Beach, CA. Good To Go is an awesome VEGAN/VEGETARIAN/RAW restaurant, the employees are always attentive and informative, this would definitely be a place to stop in if you are near the area!

Most of my friends are open to this kind of stuff, but I couldn’t imagine if I lived anywhere near my family and tried dealing with them.
If I am cooking I usually just make vegan meals and don’t share my secret till after it’s been eaten. I find that it works quite well! I also made a vegan thanksgiving for my mom and a friend, and the both LOVED it. They knew ahead of time, but it’s awesome to show people that food can still be yummy!
I gone some days with out eating meat and dairy. I have a friend that is a vegan. She took me to this vegan restaurant and it wus kool. One thing about that place is that they used tofu or what ever it wuz to make this thing look like shimp. what the hell is that!!, if you guys want to eat something that taste like shrimp and looks like shimp go eat a shrimp. the food was good but to put those fake shrimp, it did piss me off a little. i still go there with her. One thing i hate is people telling me to go one meal with out eating meat. If i don’t want to eat meat is up to me and it’s no one else business it what i eat.

If I have my birthday dinner in an Italian restaurant, you have to go one meal without eating Chinese. Is that up to you? Is it no one else’s business if you want to eat Chinese? Maybe, but then you’re missing my birthday dinner.
I don’t go around telling people not to eat meat (though if called upon to do so, I’ll point out that piglets have muddy snouts). But yeah, my next birthday dinner is going to be at Millennium. And if people are actually put out and offended by the prospect of making an entire meal with no animal products at all, then it’s pretty likely I’d have offended them in some other way, too. So they can just send me a card…
wow! i eat meat with every meal, i love meat, wow, i truly understand your dilema, wow, i don’t want to come off as arrogant but, you guessed it; wow!
Don’t try and change people as you wouldn’t want to be changed; i.e. if someone asked you NOT to eat vegan for one meal (regarding the fact that it’s your birthday and the man doesn’t know you) and asked you to try meat (with sides of course) you wouldn’t, would you?
Im a meat eater, as previously mentioned, and I respect that you don’t eat meat – for whatever reason!
now, im not a ‘trouble-stirrer!’ i was looking for an article that was something like ‘i eat meat every meal – is this bad for my health’ and i stumbled across this monstrosity of slander aimed at a close minded stereotypical view of one person!
ooohhh it’s good to release!
