They are having special V-day tours every hour from 11am to 2pm as well as delicious vegan chocolates and $1 kissing booths where you can smooch animal acres staff members (ohh la la!). You can also give some love to the cows, chickens, pigs and other farm animals that enjoy life at Animal Acres. Thinking of a romantic picnic lunch? You can bring some vegan goodies and spread out a blanket in the courtyard. The West Hollywood city council voted unanimously last Monday night in favor of an ordinance to prohibit retail sales of dogs and cats at pet stores. Yay! The ordinance makes West Hollywood, a leader in adopting laws to protect animals from cruelty, one of only a handful of cities in the nation to close off a primary channel for the sale of dogs and cats produced in large-scale, commercial breeding facilities such as puppy mills. Operation Blankets of Love is an amazing organization that collects new and gently used blankets for animals in shelters. It’s proven that adding blankets makes the animals more adoptable which saves lives. And no one likes seeing a shelter dog laying on cold concrete. We want all dogs to be adopted and loved.
On February 20th there will be a fundraiser to benefit Blankets of Love at 360 West 2nd St in Oxnard. The Happy Tails 911 Save a Homeless Pet Faire starts at 10am and ends at 2pm. There will be cat and dog adoptions from local animal shelters and rescues. You can also enjoy a doggie costume contest which starts at 12pm. Be sure to arrive between 10 and 11:30am for registration and give a $10 suggested donation. You can also bring blankets and dog toys which will be given to dogs at shelters. You will receive a voucher for a FREE rabies vaccination with any blanket donation.
The fundraiser is sponsored by the Oxnard Police and Fire Department Communications Center. You can check it out on their facebook page. Please attend this fun-filled event and bring a blanket! Homeless dogs and cats will appreciate your kindness.
